Step 1: Bake Cupcakes

Before you get started, you need cupcakes to decorate. Here, we turned a Southern classic hummingbird cake recipe into cupcakes. These hummingbird cupcakes add cozy flavors to an Easter brunch or dinner, but you can swap them with your favorite cupcake recipe if you’d prefer. You can also use store-bought cupcakes and skip straight to the fun part of decorating. Get the recipe: Hummingbird Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting

Step 2 for Lamb Cupcakes: Frost and Add Woolly Trim

Once your cupcakes are cooled and ready for decorating, get started on the lamb decorations by frosting the top of each cupcake with white frosting—we recommend using our recipe for white chocolate-cream cheese frosting! Add some to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Use the piping bag to make a border of ruffly frosting stars around the edge of the cupcake. If you don’t have a piping bag or a star tip, you can put your frosting in a plastic bag, cut a small hole in one corner, and use it to make curly loops around the edge of each cupcake.

Step 3 for Lamb Cupcakes: Finish the Face

For the rest of the face, divide the remaining white frosting between two bowls and mix in a few drops of food coloring (we used brown and pink). To make the ears, cut a mini marshmallow in half and pipe a small square of pink icing onto each half. Press each half into the frosting on each side of the cupcake. To make a nose, use a small round tip to pipe pink frosting in a small triangle near the center of each cupcake. For eyes, use a round tip to pipe brown frosting in small half-circles to make adorably sleepy eyes.

Step 2 for Bunny Cupcakes: Make Frosting Ears

Start by frosting each cupcake with light pink frosting. Use a piping bag with a large round tip to pipe two circles of white frosting on top of the base layer. Using an offset spatula, drag the frosting down to make two bunny ears. Add a dot of pink frosting on top of the white, and use your spatula to drag each pink dot in the same direction as the white ears. You can use this same technique to make petals for frosting flowers.

Step 3 for Bunny Cupcakes: Give Your Easter Bunny a Face

Using a piping bag with a large round tip, pipe a circle of white frosting to make the bunny’s face. Use a small round tip to add brown frosting dots for eyes. Make a small pink triangle for the nose, then pipe on a pink mouth. Finally, use white frosting to pipe two tiny whiskers on each side of the nose. These Easter bunny cupcakes are ready to hop onto your plates! Editor’s Tip: If you don’t have a piping bag to make these smaller decorations, don’t worry! Instead, just add your frosting to a plastic bag. To make the round bunny face, cut a large hole in one corner so plenty of frosting will come out with each squeeze. Or cut a tiny hole for the finer details like the nose and mouth.
